Today we
all use the Internet in one way or another, and social media is very important
for most of us to communicate with friends, and the rest of the world. When I
moved here I wanted to have a fast Internet so I actually can sit by the
computer and surf and chat and download anything without thinking of how much
data I use. It is also important for my work, of course.
The story
of the Italian Internet…
My Italian
are still not good enough to communicate (sadly, but working on it!), so I got
help from one of my Italian friends to order Internet for me, and to make sure
it will be fast enough so I can use it for streaming without the squares and all the waiting. After saying “sì” or “no” on the phone by signal from my friend, I
finally agreed to sign a contract for Internet. We made an appointment 14 days
later to connect my apartment to the fibre and really fast Internet… “Wow, I
will really soon be able to use Internet and finally catch up with some of the
episodes from my Netflix series!”, I thought. Well… as you may have guessed out
of the title of this little article, I needed to wait a bit more.
Lets see if
I remember it all. First time my friend made a mess, so we needed to
reschedule. It can happen. The next time the technician had some trouble and
could not come. Ok, so we are even. The third time the technician didn't have
the right key for the box. What the hell, you are working with this every day,
and you don't have the right tools? The fourth time the technician did the
connection in the outer box, and used the rest of his two hours to look for the
box inside. When he finally found it he was out of time and he needed to
reschedule. The fifth time the technician looked for signals in the box, and he
found non… 150 metres of cable from the box to my apartment was missing, so
once again - reschedule! So far I am writing three months of waiting…
